What causes hemorrhoids during pregnancy ?

Hemorrhoids  occurs due to increased pressure in the rectal area which causes veins to enlarge and rapture. Some of the common causes include :

  • constipation
  • pressure from sitting or standing for a long period of time
  • the strain of excess weight
  • increased pressure of the growing uterus on the veins

Pregnancy hormones can also cause veins to relax. This makes them prone to swelling. If you have hemorrhoids during pregnancy, you are more likely to get it again during another pregnancy. It may also flare up during labor.
