Most cleaning products are safe during pregnancy provided you use them carefully. However the smell associated with some of these supplies such as ammonia and bleach  can cause nausea. One cleaning supply you need to avoid is oven cleaner. It can be dangerous to breathe especially when there is no ventilation.

Recommendations on cleaning during pregnancy .

If you are going to be cleaning during pregnancy, there are some steps you need to take to avoid causing any harm to you or your baby.

  • Make sure there is good ventilation where you are cleaning.
  • Be sure to always read warning and instruction labels.
  • Wear protective gloves and clothing to protect your skin from the chemicals.
  • Do not mix chemicals such as ammonia and bleach. This can be dangerous for anyone to inhale.
  • Avoid using oven cleaner because it is such a tight place and ventilation is not good.
  • You need to be careful when using aerosol cleaning products. They spread the chemicals in fine mist and you are more likely to breathe in.

If you are not comfortable cleaning or some of the cleaning supplies make you sick, ask someone else to do it.

You can also use environmentally friendly or natural cleaning supplies if you are uncomfortable. These include vinegar and baking soda. These  natural items can be used  anywhere in your home from your kitchen to your bathroom.
